Usage

Bowie Dick Test Packs for monitoring Steam sterilization processes

  • Axis Bowie Dick Test Packs with Steam Chemical Indicators are designed for testing air removal efficiency of vacuum-assisted steam sterilizers.
  • Pink indicator turns to reference color of Black when the load exposed to Steam sterilant.

Once the cycle is over, the user must Analyse the results

INSTRUCTION FOR USE

1. Place suitable model of Bowie Dick Test Pack in an empty chamber that will be sterilized by Steam.
2. Bowie dick test pack detects inadequate air removal and steam penetration in vacuum-assisted Steam sterilizers.
3. Run the sterilizer as usual.
3. 5 min. at 134 °C / 15min. at 121 °C.
4. After the sterilization has finished, remove the Bowie Dick Test Pack and examine the test sheet (the test sheet has been placed on the middle of the test pack)
5. A test sheet that shows a completely uniform color change to dark brown/black indicates rapid steam penetration, adequate air removal, and lack of significant air leaks.
6. If a non-uniform color change is noticed, it should be reported immediately to the supervisor and the sterilizer should not be used until examined for possible malfunction. 

THE COLOR ON THE PRODUCT CAN SHOW DIFFERENCE WITH THE COLOR SEEN ON REFERENCE CHART DUE TO PRINTING QUALITY. USER CAN MAKE COMPARISON WITH UNUSED PRODUCT.

      • Low pressure in the chamber
      • Steam supply changes
      • Leakages
      • Poor steam quality
      • Insufficient vacuum
  • If the ink has changed into another color (as specified), the items have been processed correctly.
  • Alternatively, any different colors (as specified) indicate a failure in the sterilization cycle.

The contents of each pack must be exposed to several critical parameters of the sterilization process.

Storage conditions

  • Store it in a dark place between 15-30°C, 35-60% relative humidity.
  • Do not put direct sunlight.
  • Do not re-use.
  • Do not store close to sterilizing agents.
  • Indicators have an expiration date of 5 years from the date of manufacture when stored in recommended conditions.

Precautions

  • Hot surface. Please be careful to avoid skin burns before opening the pack
  • Do not store the product near sterilizing agents.
  • Do not expose this product to EO, Dry Heat or any sterilization process other than Steam.
  • Do not use a Bowe- Dick Test Pack n gravity displacement steam sterilization cycles (where there’s no pre-vacuum phase to check) or any kind of sterilization processes other than vacuum-assisted Steam.
  • Do not reuse the sterilizer until the chemical indicator has changed homogeneously into the color indicated in the product.
