BOWIE-DISK TEST SHEET

• Axis Bowie-Dick test allows testing of steam sterilizers with minimum effort and highest level of quality.
• Test pack helps to determination of sterilization malfunctions at an early stage.
• The test sheet has a blue pattern with a lead-free chemical indicator.
• Control of Steam sterilization process: 134°C – 3.5 min // 121°C-15 min

INSTRUCTION FOR USE

1. Each day, before the first processed load, the Bowie-Dick test must be performed in an empty sterilizer to detect the presence of residual air in the chamber. Bowie-Dick Test is performed after a warm-up cycle at the beginning of every load.
2. Place Bowie-Dick Test horizontally on bottom shelf of sterilizer rack, over drain. Do not place directly on the drain or sterilizer floor.
3. Run the sterilizer at 134°C – 3.5 min // 121°C-15 min. 
4. Remove the test from the sterilizer and wait until it cools.
5. A uniform color change to black or its shades indicates “PASS”. Non- uniform color changes indicates “FAIL”.
6. “PASS” result indicates successful sterilization “FAIL” result indicates malfunction in sterilization process.

COMMON CAUSES OF ERRORS

• Low pressure in the chamber
• Steam supply changes
• Leakages
• Poor steam quality
• Insufficient vacuum

The contents of each pack must be exposed to several critical parameters of the sterilization process.

  • Temperature

• If the ink has changed into another color (as specified), the items have been processed correctly.
• Alternatively, any different colors (as specified) indicate a failure in the sterilization cycle.
